Understanding yellow diamonds in greater detail
These days people are continually experimenting with many different designs and colors in their jewelry. The market for yellow diamonds is just as popular as that for any other kind. These colored diamonds are growing increasingly popular and they are available in so many shades depending on the demand. Pink diamonds, yellow diamonds and even black ones are wildly. Most of the time, these diamonds are not naturally occurring but treated to obtain that color. The naturally occurring ones come in large chunks of diamond crystals with a lot of inclusions in them that gives it these colors.
A lot of people assume that diamonds with inclusions are a cheap buy. It is not necessarily true as some of them are quite expensive although of course definitely cheaper than clear and well cut white diamonds. They are quite an exotic variety of stone to go for. There are vivid and fancy 6 carat yellow diamonds that can come at very low costs. This makes colored diamonds a great choice for most people. The color of the diamonds comes from carbon atoms in it being replaced by nitrogen atoms. Depending on the number of nitrogen inclusions the clarity of the yellow diamonds can vary.
These days everyone is going for colored stones over plain white diamonds. Today many celebrities have chosen yellow diamonds for their engagement rings and this has definitely added to the demand for them in the market. Most colored diamonds are not seen to be a naturally occurring precious gem. However there are quite a few being made in labs and so the demand is met with one way or another. One of the famous diamonds that have been found is the tiffany yellow. It was a canary yellow octahedron which was valued at $12,000 in the year 1983 and is 287 carats.
If you are interested in finding out about more colored diamonds you may want to look at the prices and the quality of the stones available in the market. Very often, color, cut, clarity and carats are important particulars that determine the price of the diamonds. Just 1/10 of about 1 percent of diamonds that naturally occur in the mines will be yellow diamonds. The diamonds are quite inexpensive when they have been treated in the labs. The largest yellow diamond in the world till date is the Kimberley Octahedron weighing 616 carats. It was found in the Dutoitspan Mine in South Africa. Photos courtesy of www.randor.com
